Cricket has been played on the Playing field since the late 1800s.
The Parish Council along with the neighbouring Parish Council acquired the lease to the Playing Field in 1975.
In 1994 Whatton-in-the-Vale Parish Council and Aslockton Parish Council (‘the Parish Councils’) purchased the freehold of the field (5.5 acres)
In order to protect the Playing Field as a recreational facility in perpetuity the Parish Councils entered into a ‘Deed of Dedication’ with the National Playing Field Association. The Da
The deed did two things:
1. It added a covenant to the Title Deed ensuring that the playing field could only be used for recreational purposes for the benefit of the residents of Whatton and Aslockton and;
2. In created a Charitable Trust – The Whatton and Aslockton Playing Field Trust’ with the Parish Councils as Trustees.
The Parish Councils as Trustees delegated the authority to manage and develop the Playing Field to a Management Committee. The Trustees maintain oversight of the Committees activities.
The Parish Councils continue to support the Playing Field financially with both Revenue (annually) and Capital grants.
